The main aim of RE teaching is to contribute to the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of the pupils by helping them to understand both the Christian tradition and the other principal religions represented around the world.
We are a school with a strong Christian background and we believe that children should have a good knowledge and understanding of this set of beliefs and its practices. The children also learn about the teachings and values of the other world religions. We enable pupils to understand what religion means to a believer and how faith influences behaviour.
As the children mature we encourage them to use this knowledge to reflect on some of the more challenging questions of human existence and to understand how different faith systems explain these issues. With the knowledge acquired the children begin to develop their own beliefs and values within an environment where the practice of Christian principles and those of other religions is respected.
